Our second walk!

We were really tired on this gloomy, drizzly Sunday. We've all had a very busy few weeks at work, and Emma had been unwell with flu, so we opted for a short walk today. We had originally planned to continue our walk in Newport, but with a Yellow Weather Warning in place, and all of us pretty worn out, we improvised and decided to do something a little closer to home.

So we started at Lavernock Point!

Finding places to park the cars (one at the beginning and one at the end) was super straightforward. Before we knew it, we were on the path, which took us through a heavily sheltered clifftop walk. Pros - we were protected from the elements. Cons? We didn't really get to see much of the sea at all, aside from the odd glimpse.

Before we knew it, we were in Penarth. Had we planned this walk, we might have started a little further away, but it was definitely no bad thing that we had a nice, gentle stroll.

This was a really very easy walk whilst we followed the path. Not at all strenuous! In fact, Anna described it as a "Sunday Stroll". Ideal if you're looking for a short, gentle walk.

Obviously we had to stop at Penarth Pier for an ice cream. It would have been rude not to.

After the pier, though, we got a little confused. The Wales Coast Path markers were nowhere to be seen. Given that tides were on our side, we opted to walk at coast-level around the headland (which is shown on this map in red). If you're not comfortable with the tides or the area, please stick to the official route, which we later researched and found it goes up the cliff via a road into Penarth Town. You can see that on the map in purple.

The route we followed took us over some amazing rocky beaches, and we found some fishermen competing! We had toyed with the idea of maybe walking a bit further than we'd planned (and planned in the loosest sense of the word!) But poor Luca the Doggo had a poorly foot, the weather was pretty grey and wet, and we were all quite tired, and so we called it a day at the Barrage. Which we forgot to take a photo of.

As always, you can catch our video blog from today Here, and see all our photos from South Wales Here.

Lily's Rundown

  • Expensive houses with beautiful views

  • Ice cream at the pier

  • Luca's poorly paw

  • Beautiful coloured rocks

  • Competing for cod, bass, Dover sole and conga eels

This Walk's Rating: 3.3 stars

Distance: 2.8 miles/4.5km

Walk difficulty: Very Easy

Navigation: Straightforward at first, poor after the pier.
